My Top Ten Rap Songs From The Wu-Tang Clan
So I thought I'd take a moment to list my
top ten rap songs by Wu-Tang Clan as one of the many tributes that I'll probably post on my blog in reference to
90's hip hop music. After all, for me, I'd have to say that most of my hip hop beats are influenced by the bangin' flava that the 90's era put out. This was the era that hip hop blew up big time, and that wordplay was at its highest peak! Though hip hop in my eyes and ears is long gone from what it used to be in the 90's, I still want to give the tribute where it's due, and so I decided to list what I feel are probably my
top ten rap songs from Wu-Tang Clan... and this is compiled from songs that either the Wu did as a whole, or that individual or combined artists did (not subsidiaries such as Killarmy for example). Here goes:
10. Assassination Day - Ghostface Killah (Ironman Album)Okay, so it was a very close race for 10th place for me between this track, and the I'll Be There For You Method Man track off the Tical album, but I slightly edged off of this based on the overall feel of the track. This track really brought some heat to the table, and the militant
war beat that was added to this track really set it over the top! Masta Killa also added to the impact of this track with his lyrical part on this track! Be sure to peep this one!
9. Bring The Pain - Method Man (Tical Album)I don't think it'd be a
top ten rap songs from Wu-Tang Clan list if I did NOT add this track onto the list! Find me a person who liked
90's hip hop music who did NOT know or remember this track, and I'd be shocked and surprised! Method Man definitely brought the pain to the table with this hot and sick track! The
east coast beat on this track banged like hell, and Method Man's lyrics were on point! Just with the "I came to bring the pain hardcore to the brain..." line itself, you knew you were in for a hot track!
8. Ice Cream - Raekwon (Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Album)Did you think I was really going to put this list together and omit this rap track? This track really amplified
90's hip hop music, and was a must to add to the
top ten rap songs list! "Yo honeydips summertime fine Jheri drippin.." If you're a fan of Wu-Tang, you know that this track HAD to have Ghostface on it! Starky Love on this track, aka Tony Starks.. yeah, definitely the sexual lyricist on a lot of his tracks, and with the hot concept of this track referring sexuality to ice cream, why wouldn't it have been a hit? The hip hop beat on this track too was sick and radio friendly while still sounding thugged out and hip hop, as opposed to what you typically hear on the radio today!
7. Incarcerated Scarfacez - Raekwon (Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Album)Straight grimey and street, this track was a certifiable hit with most hip hop heads, especially for those that were into east coast beats and rap music! I can remember bumping this track in the car for years on end, and still do from time to time! This track was, and always will be a classic, really worth listening to especially if you got a taste of
90's hip hop music and what Wu-Tang was all about! Go to Youtube and listen to this track now!
6. Protect Ya Neck - Wu Tang Clan (Enter the 36 Chambers Album)Some of the greatest Wu Tang lyrics and music came from their original, first album release, which was 36 Chambers, and this made the birth of the Wu great for years after, and also brought each individual member of the Wu to star status! And from that album, this track is definitely worth the
top ten rap songs of Wu Tang list! Protect Ya Neck is classic, raw, and lyrical with that street aggression that really makes you go back to it to listen to it over and over again. It's an instant hit that makes you really say "ooohhh sh**, I remember that joint!" and will keep you on that station until the song finishes!
5. 4th Chamber - GZA (Liquid Swordz Album)If this doesn't come across as a straight up Wu-Tang track, I don't know what does! This track was lyrically fire from the moment it started! That high pitched synth that buzzed throughout this track gave it instant status, and combined with the lyrical skills of GZA, RZA, Killah Priest, and Ghostface starting off this track, I still bump this years later as one of my favorite Wu Tang tracks! The lyrics didn't make much sense to most of us probably, especially from Ghost, but the way it's put together and the way it flows makes it hot regardless of whether you know what's being talked about, or not! Definitely a
90's hip hop music bangah!
4. Duel of the Iron Mic - GZA (Liquid Swordz Album)One of my favorites to make my
top ten rap songs from Wu-Tang has to be Duel of the Iron Mic! Do you remember it? This track had that immediate smooth east coast beat going on, and GZA, Masta Killa, and Inspectah Deck ripped the track apart with the lyrical fire! I think this track overall had all the elements needed to make a great track... tight lyrics, smooth delivery, and a tight hip hop beat to bring it all together! "Duel of the Iron Mic, it's the fifty two fatal strikes!"
3. Wu-Gambinoes - Raekwon & Wu Tang (Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Album)Now THIS joint here is definitely a classic for anyone who knows or owns the legendary purple tape! Without question, this to me is one of my
top ten rap songs from Wu Tang Clan of all time! This featured most of the Wu, and lyrically blew up headphones and speakers across the globe! Created with a tight mafioso style storytelling rap beat, this track brought chills and verbal kills to the masses! If you've not ever heard this track but are a fan of the Wu, you'll definitely want to Youtube this track and listen to it! Easily to me, a great and powerful
90's hip hop music track!
2. C.R.E.A.M. - Wu Tang Clan (Enter The 36 Chambers Album)"Cash Rules Everything Around Me, Dollah Dollah Bill Y'allllll!!" You know you've heard that powerful line, even if you didn't know who delivered it! And that by itself makes this powerful Wu Tang rap track one of the most classic tracks that they put out! The raw gritty sound of the old school instrumental that they used, and the lyrics that the Wu brought to this track gave it a very fierce and deep street swagger! I don't think I'll ever hear another track like this ever again! It was simply classic, and will stand the test of time! A MUST HEAR if you've never heard this classic track before! Well worth being the 2nd of my
top ten rap songs from WTC!!
1. Triumph - Wu Tang Clan (Wu Tang Forever Album)Okay, so it was a dead close toss up for me between C.R.E.A.M., and Triumph, but by a very slight and slim margin, I give the edge to Triumph! This track was bangin! To have every single member of Wu Tang spit some hot lyrics to this track, and coupled together with the blazin' hot gangsta beat that this track brought out, Triumph was a definite pick for my list! The music video was also one of the greatest I had ever seen in hip hop. Each member of the Wu represented lyrically with this track, starting off with Ol Dirty at his usual element, and Inspectah Deck really blowing up with the lyrics to get the track flowing the rest of the way through! This was without question a great track, and the number one pick of my
top ten rap songs from Wu Tang Clan! Be sure you listen to every one of these tracks! Whether you're a fan, or want to get a feel for
90's hip hop music, these tracks deliver on great lyrics, hip hop beats, and more!
