What's goin' on, it's Genycis once again droppin' another post on the blog for you. I wanted to bring your ears and attention and bring your attentive ears to the forefront while your eyes absorb what I'm about to tell you, and that is this simple message: You GOTTA peep the music from my man
Marcus Norris. Again, that is
Marcus Norris, and you gotta peep the music he's bringin' to the table.
This kat is delivering it all to you, in many forms, which is why I had to call him the "Flavaful Man of Many Flavaz". When you hear his music, you'll hear exactly what I'm talking about. I listened to the tracks that he has displayed at his website at MarcusNorris.com and this dude delivers nicely, allowing me to enjoy all of the tracks he put forth on the site. But then, I'll let'cha check it out for yourself for a listen.
You can hit up this link here to check out the music he's putting out, and enjoy the tunes like I did.So I think just about every song I heard on the site by Marcus Norris conveyed a different feel, a different flava, and this is what I liked and enjoyed about the music overall. It wasn't a typical set of tracks that had the same exact feel or sound to it with a different few words (and a reason I'm not so into some of the trap tracks I keep hearing over and over sounding the same). I have to say my favorite track of the ones on the tracklist, is "Real Life Rap".. I liked the word play overall and the melody on the beat set his track off nicely. He caught me off guard with the "Dentist" track though, I was like word?? Didn't anticipate what I heard by the title. Smooth track too fam!
Marcus delivered nicely on the tracks and it left me knowing that when he puts out even more music to come, that he's in it for the art of it, for the depth of enjoyment of making music which is something more and more artists are losing in 2013 which started showing more and more in 2012.
So I had a chance to politic with Marcus a little and this kat is very humble and a very respectable kat as well. He's not just doing music just to do it, he has a goal and a mindset to where he wants his music to stand in the history of music. And I can definitely respect that as it shows a signature and desire to leave that footprint in the wet cement of the industry, or as he put it, he wants "to be mentioned when the future music scholars define the term "21st Century African American Composers”. Deep right there.
He also has a desire to not just keep his music at a set level, he wants to innovate it further and reinvent himself again and again by infusing other genres of music into his own flava, such as jazz, and classical, and other genres of music that will remain strong to the mainstream listener. So again, my point made, a man of many flavaz. I think with this thinking, the music Marcus Norris continues to put out will definitely resonate in the minds of many listeners now,and those to come down the line, trust and believe.
Some background info on
Marcus Norris for you as well to soak in. Marcus Norris is currently attending Columbia College Chicago as a Music Composition
Major, where he transferred after earning his Associate Degree in Music
Recording Technology at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. Being
a part of Schoolcraft’s "Synthesizer Ensemble” and "iPad Band” were
notable favorite musical projects for him.. He not only performed with
the experimental group, but was also given the opportunity to compose.
At 21 years old, he’s trying to find his voice as a composer and
producer, and absorbing all the music he can. So just imagine where he will stand a few years from now given his music background, his pursuits and desires, his drive and eagerness on where he wants to reach, and the imprint on the listener that he wants to leave.
If you're looking for a music artist who really is deeply into music and making new and mind provoking tracks, don't sleep on this kat. Be sure to bookmark his site. Again, that's
