With so much competition in the music industry, anyone can feel
overwhelmed and feel a sense of defeat in getting their music heard.
There's always someone new on the stage, on the airwaves, and online
that will give your music a run for its money. However, don't allow
yourself to feel defeated. It will all fall into place, and these next
few tips will help jump start or stimulate your presence to the music
industry.
First on the list is to be humble but confident. No
one likes someone who is so arrogant it makes them feel annoyed. And
where there are cocky musicians or music artists, there is bound to be a
decline in presence and people actually listening to their music.
Someone more humble who also inquires on thoughts of the fans and takes
constructive criticism well, will find that people will deal with them
more often. The confidence must be there though as well. Someone
without confidence in the music industry with too humble a mind will
find themselves being pushed over.
Creating unique and clear
musical content is probably your most important aspect of everything.
If you are a hip hop artist, then you'll want to make sure to deliver
your lines with clarity. You'll also want to make sure that the
rap instrumentals
that you're using match up to what you're speaking about. Or, you can
make sure the beat's okay, and try to cater yourself to their beat. At
any rate, clear music is key to having people listen to your music, or
hearing a bunch of garble. Using a condenser mic is key important,
especially if you don't have access to a studio.
Networking on
social networks online is a must. You can't start thinking that you can
sing, rap, or create hip hop beats (this applies to producers as well
as musicians or rap artists) so well as though the moment you walk out
the door, you land a position with a high level recording company or
label. After all, even those that went from high school basketball to
professional sports still had to learn growing up how to play the
game... they didn't just come out of first grade and into the pros! You
can however, build your profile and name with social networks such as
Twitter, Facebook, Bebo, Myspace, websites of that nature. Be sure to
especially use Twitter. You can make a great following using Twitter
over a period of time, and then post a message and have them repeat it
to their friends and so forth. This will build great exposure. Just
remember to listen to other people who put their music up as well.
Create
a Facebook Fan Page for yourself. Make sure to have the headline for
your fan page seem catchy. The more catchy it may be, the more
possibility that people flock to your page. Creating a Facebook fan
page however, helps with your publicity. You can pretty much have
people watch it, tell your loyal followers to follow others, and so
forth. Then again, who says you have to stop on just one!
Collaborate
with someone. Often, you'll be surprised at how people will be willing
to work with you in order to build their publicity as well.
Collaborating with someone who creates
instrumentals
will help, or, if you're an aspiring producer, then working with a
music artist or vocalist will help all the same. And, if you work well
with others and make a beautiful music piece together, you both can
spread word of the production altogether. The more, the merrier. Just
be sure to collaborate with people that seem eager to help spread your
word in the same light that you spread theirs. If someone's more about
themselves than you, move on to the next one.
Hopefully, with
some persistence and applying some of the above tips into action, you'll
be able to build even further on your musical presence. Though the
tips above won't help get you directly into the doors of say, Sony, they
will more than likely be of help to get you more presence online which
will help you receive the appeal you're striving to achieve.
